Benefits of Dietetics
A dietitian is a qualified health professional that can assess, diagnosis, and treat dietary and nutritional related problems. Dietitians are the only nutrition professionals that are regulated by law. They work in a variety of settings with both healthy and sick people. Dietitians often work to treat complex clinical conditions such as diabetes, weight management, food allergy and intolerances, eating disorders, malnutrition, kidney failure, IBS and bowel disorders.
Dietitian vs Nutritionist
The title "dietitian" is protected by law. This means all dietitians must be legally registered before being able to practice under this title. As a regulated profession all dietitians must demonstrate a certain level of knowledge, clinical understanding, and experience before they are able to join the profession and provide practice. The term "nutritionist" is not a protected title. This means anyone can claim to be a nutritionist, regardless of their qualifications, level of understanding, or clinical experience.

What qualifications do we have?
All registered dietitians will hold either a BSc Hons in Dietetics, or a related science degree with a PgDip or MSc degree in Dietetics. These degrees are specifically structured to support the development of skills required to become a registered dietitian. Each course requires a period of supervised clinical practice within NHS settings, where graduates must demonstrate their clinical and professional competence before applying for registration. Graduates must meet the standards of proficiency for dietetics before obtaining registration. It can take between 3-5 years to become fully qualified.
